Order it online! Whereever you are in the U.S.

The Hungry Vegan offers a full menu of vegan meals that can be delivered to your door, ready to heat and eat. Every week they design and create a different menu, and everyone gets the same thing. The orders placed by Tuesday at midnight are shipped out the following day, and delivered one or two days later by FedEx. The prices are reasonable for a delivery service like this: $75 for one week's meals for one person. Delivery is fairly expensive, but cheaper if you live in the regional area near the Hungry Vegan (see the website for a map).

I have just ordered one week's worth from them. I will write about my experience here. I am hoping for the best - what could be more convenient than delicious vegan meals that are sitting in your refrigerator, ready to heat?

I hope the hungry vegan does great!! Also, you have to check out www.buykind.com.
At buykind.com you can order online from some of the best award-winning vegan restaurants
from across the country and have a spectacular, mouth-watering cruelty-free feast delivered to your door (for one or many.) It is amazing and the best food I've ever experienced! It is sooo much fun and it is all about helping animals. Profit from buykind.com goes to help farm animals. I don't think until you see it first hand anyone could imagine the hell that farmed animals endure. Please try to spread the word and support buykind - they are new and could use it. I would love to check out the hungry vegan as well!! It is all good - the more people who can try cruelty-free the better - vegan done right is the best food ever!!!

VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!

I just received my first order from The Hungry Vegan this week. It took 4 days to arrive and was a wet, sloppy mess! It was shipped Fed Ex Home Delivery which has no guarantee as to how long it takes to arrive. The web site states I would receive my order in 1 -2 days. The owner, Amy Townsend, has refunded my money, but refusing to admit fault in the shipping offered for her service, but also has an attitude about her wasted time, energy, and money.

The food was in vacuum sealed bags that had excess plastic past the sealed area where there was bits of whatever food was packaged. The desserts came unwrapped in paper type boxes and they were completely smashed and also wet. By the time I received the food...it was 5 days old!

lmf, I am sure sorry to hear about your experience. Obviously the Hungry Vegan can't control FedEx. How the food was wrapped certainly is under her control.

I will provide a blow-by-blow account of my experience here.

And Jory, I look forward to trying buykind.com too. I love that this kind of service is offered.

Hi Judith-

I will be curious to hear about your experince. I was so excited when I first heard about it! The problem was not with Fed Ex. The problem is The Hungry Vegan web site states that for where I live:
"You can receive your meals via FedEx Ground Home Delivery within one or two days of shipping."
I ship orders out almost everyday and no matter how quick the estimated delivery may be, the only way to be sure is 3 day, 2 day, overnight...especially for perishable items.

I am most bothered by the attitude of Amy Townsend. When I commented to her that this was all very disappointing and a waste of my time, she responded:

"You don’t realize how much time I’ve spent on the phone with FedEx trying to get your shipment to you in the first place. This has been a great waste of time and a loss for us."

I reminded her that the difference was that I was a customer and paid her for a service she did not deliver. She also claims that Fed Ex misinformed me and I know they have not.

Hi again lmf,

Not a great endorsement! As I live on the west coast it will be perhaps even more of a challenge. I am glad you got your money back. It sounds like Amy doesn't understand that we don't want to hear about her problems. Either you can do it or you can't.

I hope for a better experience!

I have a business myself and I am far from perfect. I would have accepted a "Sorry, we are learning and need to do things differently". I bet there will be a change of the shipping policy and packaging since my complaints.

I only paid $9.50 shipping for regional. If you paid more for nationwide I think they all go guaranteed delivery times according to the web site so yours should arrive in a timely manner.

BTW - While searching on-line I saw ads for help wanted to prepare food with the Chef for The Hungry Vegan and it was for Mondays. My food shipped on Wednesday and I received it Saturday at 4:40 PM so it was probably 6 days old, with 4 days in transit in a cooler with an ice pack.

I bet the food is very good (It looked good!) if packaged and delivered in a timely manner... and sans the attitude when a customer complains. =0)

yes, lmf, I paid a lot more for shipping - by air. That will probably make a difference.

You are right on, I think, in your analysis.

After this shipment I am going to try buykind.com - I looked there and it is a different kind of thing. The food is shipped from various restaurants around the country. That should be interesting.

Hi again Jory,

I am glad you found this blog, too. I like to cook - but not always! and I'm not always in the mood for getting detailed about it. So it's great to find alternatives!

I was checking out the buykind.com web site earlier and had to go make myself some vegan tacos because it was making me so hungry! "lovin' spoonfuls" food looks delicious. Don't know if I will order but I will be sure to post if I do.

Nice to meet you Jory! And I am also glad to find your blogs Judith. I also bookmarked Vegan Soapbox Blog >^..^< http://vegansoapbox.blogspot.com/
